Our story

Hi my name is Poppy and I created Cotswold Flora in 2022. Having grown up on the family farm near Cheltenham, I chose to study Animal Science at The University of Nottingham in 2014. I went on to work with animals in a range of contexts from animal rescue charities to farm animal veterinary research.

As with many new ventures, Cotswold Flora has continually evolved but from the beginning, I have focused on growing my own British flowers, sustainably.

The floristry industry can have a negative impact on the environment due to sourcing flowers from hotter climates, transportation into other countries and the plastic packaging around every bunch which goes to landfill.

Picked with care

Cotswold Flora is proud to grow British flowers sustainably, causing as little damage to the environment as possible. Having taken good care of the seedlings, the flowers grown at Cotswold Flora are better quality and have a longer vase life than that of commercial flowers. The flowers have one person handle them and can be sold hours after harvesting as fresh as possible with little environmental impact. Having grown a large variety of flowers this year it was possible to set up a fresh cut flower stall at the farm.

The flower beds are located in the orchard under the ancient perry pear and apple trees on the farm in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. Letting our rescue chickens roam free in the orchard allows them to retire in style but it can be a challenge when they find the flower beds!

This year I chose to grow specific flower varieties which stay vibrant and colourful once dried. These flowers are perfect for our beautiful home décor pieces like our Botanical Animal Heads.
